Appointments - During the Coronavirus Pandemic

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT.  DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC WE CURRENTLY HAVE A PHONE FIRST POLICY.  YOU WILL NEED TO RING THE SURGERY ON 01303 851411.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic we are currently offering telephone calls to all patients ringing for a GP appointment.  A GP or nurse will then call you back to discuss your symptoms and will provide advice and medication/sick note/test request as needed.  Please make sure that the receptionist has your current telephone number when you ring the surgery.

If the GP or nurse decides that you do require an urgent examination you will be asked to attend at a specific time and ring the doorbell for entry.  Please do not bring anyone else with you to the appointment if possible.  If you develop a new cough or a temperature or if someone in your household develops these symptoms please DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY but ring us for further advice.

If you need an appointment with a nurse please note that we can only offer certain urgent services during the Coronavirus pandemic.  Please ring the surgery as usual and we will offer you a appointment if possible.  If you usually have a review with the nurse for an ongoing condition such as asthma, COPD or diabetes you may be offered a telephone review instead of your usual appointment.  We also hope to offer video consultations in the near future.   If you develop a new cough or a temperature or if someone in your household develops these symptoms please DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY but ring us for further advice.

We now have evening appointments available every Monday until 8pm with our nurses for certain types of appointments.  Please note that these appointments are all booked in advance.  Please ask at reception for further details.

All surgeries are by appointment only. Please call the surgery between 08:30 to 18:30. Nurse practitioner appointments are mostly pre-booked, whilst the majority of doctor’s appointments are booked on the day.  We do have a limited number of advance pre-bookable appointments each day ( excluding Mondays and Fridays) for each doctor. These appointments can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance and can be booked online via the NHS app or our online service.

We do pre-book in advance when there are difficulties for the patient (e.g. work or transport problems), which makes booking an appointment and then attending the practice on the same day very difficult. 

You can routinely book appointments in advance to see the nurses as these are often longer appointments, which need to be pre-planned,  e.g. ear syringes, dressings, travel injections, immunisations etc.  

We are able to offer appointments from 08:00 - 20:00, seven days a week. We still operate from the surgery during our core hours (08:30 - 18:30), but we can also offer appointments based at the  Hub at the Royal Victoria Hospital (this is NOT the Minor Injuries Clinic, which is run separately) who will see patients from 08:00 - 20:00 for minor illnesses. Please use the usual surgery number & an appointment convenient to you will be booked for you, or alternatively you can call into the surgery to book. If you call 111 during out of hours, they will also be able to book a Hub appointment for you.

In emergencies, please phone the surgery and a clinician will advise you as to the most appropriate action to be taken.

Chaperones

If a chaperone is required during a consultation or intimate examination this role is normally performed by a nurse or other suitably trained staff member.

Patients with Mobility Issues

Within the limitations of our current premises, we try to make the surgery as accessible as we can for those with mobility issues. When you book your appointment, please be sure to remind the receptionists if you are in a wheelchair or unable to manage a number of stairs. They can then ensure that your appointment is with a clinician on the ground floor.

Busy Periods

We are constantly monitoring patient demand and try to make sure that there are enough appointments available to meet it. However, there will be times when we have a shortfall of appointments e.g. due, to an epidemic, clinicians on holiday or off sick etc. We do try to cover these times with locum doctors but sometimes, it is not always possible. During these periods, we do apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that our patients bear with us. Please remember that Mondays, Fridays and days immediately following bank holidays are always busy with lots of people wanting to see their GP. So appointments can prove easier to make at Surgery on quieter days such as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Please remember that some of the doctors only work at the surgery part time so you may not always be able to consult with the doctor you would most prefer to see at a time that is most convenient to you.  We do apologise when this happens but we do try to be as fair as we can to everyone.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
