Appointments - During the Coronavirus Pandemic


Due to the Coronavirus pandemic we are currently offering telephone calls to all patients ringing for a GP appointment.  A GP or nurse will then call you back to discuss your symptoms and will provide advice and medication/sick note/test request as needed.  Please make sure that the receptionist has your current telephone number when you ring the surgery.

If the GP or nurse decides that you do require an urgent examination you will be asked to attend at a specific time and ring the doorbell for entry.  Please do not bring anyone else with you to the appointment if possible.  If you develop a new cough or a temperature or if someone in your household develops these symptoms please DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY but ring us for further advice.

If you need an appointment with a nurse please note that we can only offer certain urgent services during the Coronavirus pandemic.  Please ring the surgery as usual and we will offer you a appointment if possible.  If you usually have a review with the nurse for an ongoing condition such as asthma, COPD or diabetes you may be offered a telephone review instead of your usual appointment.  We also hope to offer video consultations in the near future.   If you develop a new cough or a temperature or if someone in your household develops these symptoms please DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY but ring us for further advice.

Extended Access

We are able to offer appointments from 08:00 - 20:00, seven days a week.

We still operate from the surgery during our core hours (08:30 - 18:30), but we can also offer appointments based at the  Hub at the Royal Victoria Hospital (this is NOT the Minor Injuries Clinic, which is run separately) who will see patients from 08:00 - 20:00 for minor illnesses.

Please use the usual surgery number & an appointment convenient to you will be booked for you, or alternatively you can call into the surgery to book. If you call 111 during out of hours, they will also be able to book a Hub appointment for you.

Busy Periods

We are constantly monitoring patient demand and try to make sure that there are enough appointments available to meet it. However, there will be times when we have a shortfall of appointments e.g. due, to an epidemic, clinicians on holiday or off sick etc. We do try to cover these times with locum doctors but sometimes, it is not always possible. During these periods, we do apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that our patients bear with us. Please remember that Mondays, Fridays and days immediately following bank holidays are always busy with lots of people wanting to see their GP. So appointments can prove easier to make at Surgery on quieter days such as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Please remember that some of the doctors only work at the surgery part time so you may not always be able to consult with the doctor you would most prefer to see at a time that is most convenient to you.  We do apologise when this happens but we do try to be as fair as we can to everyone.

Telephone Advice

If you feel that you need to speak to a doctor / nurse for clinical advice call us on 01303 851411 so that our Receptionists can organise an appointment with an appropriate Clinician to call you back. Please be aware that our Rceptionists may suggest that an alternative service may suit you better.

If a call is arranged please make sure that you are available to take the call. If they are unable to get through to you more than once, a failed encounter note will be recorded on your journal and no further attempt will be made.


If a chaperone is required during a consultation or intimate examination this role is normally performed by a nurse or other suitably trained staff member.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form by clicking the icon to the right. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Home Visits

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

GP Training

The surgery is a GP training practice and there may be times when a trainee doctor is present during patient consultations.

If you are not happy with a trainee being present during your consultation, then please let the clinician know at the start of your consultation. It is your choice and your wishes will be respected.
