Where possible please use the online service or your nominated pharmacy (see below).
Where possible we aim to send all prescriptions direct to the patient's nominated pharmacy. Please write your chosen pharmacy clearly on your prescription request or indicate it on your online request. If you do not nominate a pharmacy then your prescription will be held at the surgery for collection.
Prescription Requests can be sent to the surgery via our online access service using an app on your phone. You can sign up for online access from home using the NHS app - please note you will need to provide proof of ID. More information about the NHS app and how to sign up is available at https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/nhs-services/the-nhs-app/ Further information on signing up for online services is available on our online services page. If you are a carer for someone else we may be able to set you up to request medication on their behalf via one of the apps. Please ring us on 01303 851411 and ask to speak to Sarah to discuss this.
Prescriptions can also be requested via your local pharmacy if you have a regular pharmacy. Please talk to the pharmacy about this as they may be able to help you manage your prescription requests or advise on home delivery options if you are currently self-isolating.

Please note that we will not be issuing larger amounts of your usual medication due to the Coronavirus crisis. This is due to national advice from NHS England to ensure there is a supply of medication for everyone. Please do not ask for more than your usual amount of medication.
Please do not request inhalers if you do not use them on a regular basis. If you are concerned about managing your asthma or COPD symptoms please ring the surgery and ask for a telephone call with Pauline or a GP. If you have a new cough or unusual breathlessness please check your symptoms with the NHS 111 Coronavirus service or ring 111 if you do not have access to the internet. It is important that you are screened for Coronavirus before ringing the surgery about a new cough.
If you have certain medication on a regular basis your “Repeat Prescription Request Form” is normally attached to the signed prescription which you take to the chemist.
You should keep this section and use it to re-order your next medication by ticking the required items and sending it back to the surgery either directly or via a designated chemist. If you happen to lose your repeat prescription you can write the medication you need on a piece of paper and post or hand it into the surgery.
You can also order online using our Patient Access service or the app MyGP or the NHS app. New users are required to complete a simple registration prior to using the service, for which ID is required, this can be done from home using the NHS app or at reception. If you are unable to use the NHS app please call the surgery for more information about how to register for online access.
Please remember that we do not normally take prescription requests over the phone. If you are self-isolating or shielding due to Coronavirus and unable to use the online service or pharmacy request we will take a prescription request over the phone ONLY DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.
A chemist is located just over the road from the surgery (see above tab) and there are several other chemists within walking distance of the surgery. Pharmacists are experts on medicines and if patients have any minor illness symptoms, which they do not feel warrants a visit to the surgery, they can offer you the best advice as to which ‘over the counter’ medication would be right for you.
Please do not order your medication too early before it is due. We will not raise the prescription until just before the due date unless there is a special reason to do so (e.g. you are going away on holiday). If you run out of medication too early, then you are probably not following the doctor’s instructions and may be taking too high a dose.
Please do not “stockpile” drugs at home as your prescription may change and once a drug has been prescribed by a Chemist to a patient it cannot be “recycled” and has to be thrown away. This wastes valuable NHS resources.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions. Furthermore, if your repeat prescription has run out and you have not seen your GP in the last 6 months, we will not be able to routinely issue your prescription without you seeing the GP.

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
